Behind the Salute

Share

It was a delight to see the Veterans Day observance at El Toro Memorial Park written up in the Orange County section of The Times. However, it was disappointing that the sponsoring organization was not even mentioned. The Mission Viejo Chapter, National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution sponsored and organized the observance.

It should also be noted that the distinguished speaker, Col. Aaron Bank, founder of the Green Berets, was presented with the society’s Medal of Honor. This medal is given to a native-born citizen who has exhibited outstanding qualities of trustworthiness, leadership, patriotism and service. It is the highest honor given by the society and is not given lightly. In fact, this is the first time that the Mission Viejo chapter has awarded the Medal of Honor to anyone.
