6th Straight Record High for Japanese Stock Index

Tokyo stocks pushed further into uncharted territory today, as the Nikkei index topped the 37,000 mark in the sixth straight record close.

But the 225-share Nikkei index ended up only 36.16 at 37,021.46 as profit-takers sold into gains, brokers said. The Nikkei had jumped 103.77 points Tuesday. In the last six trading days the market has chalked up 1,127.88 points.
