24 Arrested in Sweep of Bad-Check Suspects

A two-day sweep by district attorney’s investigators for unrepentant bad-check writers across the San Gabriel Valley netted at least 24 arrests, authorities said Tuesday.

The operation, employing about two dozen investigators armed with more than 200 arrest warrants, was designed to publicize the District Attorney’s Bad Check Enforcement Program, which has operated since 1986 in the San Gabriel Valley and is being expanded to include the city of Los Angeles. Thirteen people were in custody by midday Monday and by Tuesday afternoon, a total of 24 people either were arrested or voluntarily surrendered after finding notices of the warrants left at their homes, said Lt. Duane Trump of the District Attorney’s Bureau of Investigation.

Despite arresting only a small fraction of the people sought, Trump said the operation was a success.
