* The San Pedro Peninsula Hospital Foundation Women’s Guild held its fourth annual “Gala in the Galaxy” fund-raiser Oct. 21 at the Ramada Renaissance Hotel, Long Beach. Along with dinner and dancing, live and silent auctions were held that helped raise net proceeds to more than $100,000. Funds will be used for emergency, surgery and pathology services at the hospital. Rae Wyman and Carrie Stock were event co-chairwomen.

* The Rehab Hope Fund and Musicians Wives Inc. held a special tribute concert Oct. 26 at UCLA’s Wadsworth Theater and netted more than $12,000 to help defray medical expenses of Grammy Award-winner Clare Fischer who is recovering from head injuries. Rehab Hope Fund was founded 2 1/2 years ago and is dedicated to providing rehabilitative opportunities to victims of functional disabilities.

* Energy Unlimited, a physical fitness studio, hosted a “Sporty Halloween Party” Oct. 29 at its West Los Angeles studio. Net proceeds of $4,000 will benefit the UCLA Men’s Gymnastics Team. Laura Brooks, owner and manager, hosted the event.

* The Starlight Foundation benefit party, “Paint the Town Pink,” was held Nov. 9 at Ed Debevic’s Restaurant under the sponsorship of MGM/UA Licensing and Merchandising, Starlight Foundation of Southern California and Ed Debevic. Net proceeds of $23,000 were raised through ticket sales and an auction of “Pink Panther” items. This amount will help the foundation to continue granting wishes to critically, chronically and terminally ill children.

* The French Foundation for Alzheimer Research held “A Day at the Races” Nov. 18 at Hollywood Park. The event was hosted by Dorothy Kirsten French and Robert Wagner. Net proceeds of $21,000 will be used for ongoing research.

* The Professions and Finance Associates for the City of Hope black tie “Award of Hope” dinner was held Nov. 18 at the Beverly Hilton. About 1,000 guests greeted honoree Richard Rosenberg, vice chairman of the BankAmerica Corp. Event proceeds topped $1 million for the City of Hope.

* Wolfgang Puck presented a check for $300,000 to the Los Angeles Chapters of Meals-on-Wheels Nov. 21 in Council Chambers of City Hall. This amount was raised at the seventh annual American Wine and Food Festival, which was produced by the Wolfgang Puck Charitable Foundation on Oct. 7. It will finance 150,000 nutritious meals for the homebound elderly in the Los Angeles community during the holidays and the coming year. The event was underwritten by Joseph E. Seagram & Sons, Beef Specialists of Iowa and Los Angeles Magazine. Mayor Tom Bradley, City Council members and Department of Aging general manager Faye Washington honored Puck for raising a total of nearly $1 million since the festival began in 1983.

* The Pasadena Mental Health Center has just been awarded a $15,000 grant from the California Community Foundation, a nonprofit philanthropic organization that will celebrate its 75th anniversary in 1990. The donation will be used to expand the center’s Latino Outreach and Counseling Program.

* The Motion Picture and Television Fund has received a $50,000 gift to purchase new televisions from the Directors Guild of America Educational and Benevolent Foundation. The televisions will be installed in the fund’s new 80-bed nursing facility. The Directors Guild is a longtime supporter of the fund, having previously donated 100 televisions to the hospital, and it has contributed $50,000 to the Fund’s $50-million capital campaign.
