About 30 people were attending the birthday party in the 300 block of East 106th Street when the three gang members showed up, police said.

One of the intruders, a 17-year-old who was later arrested, ran into a rear yard shortly after noon, pulled a shotgun from his coat and began firing into the group of party-goers, detectives said.

The group at the party included members of different gangs, investigators said.

Several hours later, police arrested the 17-year-old at his home nearby. His name was not released because of his age.
