U.S. Copter Crashes in W. Germany; 1 Killed

A U.S. Army helicopter crashed in a field near here, killing the pilot and injuring the other crewman aboard, the Army said Friday.

The accident occurred Thursday night while the OH-58C helicopter was on a training exercise, according to the 3rd Infantry Division based in Wuerzburg.

The helicopter struck a cable attached to a high-tension wire pylon and crashed in a field about six miles northeast of Wuerzburg, the Army said.

Both crew members were flown to the 60th Evacuation Hospital in Wuerzburg, where the pilot was pronounced dead. The other crewman was taken to the university hospital in Wuerzburg, where he was listed in fair condition, the statement said.

Neither crewman was identified.
