California IN BRIEF : LAHAINA, HAWAII : Agnos Is Hurting to Get Back Home

Fresh from a trip stressing that his home city is safe for tourists, vacationing San Francisco Mayor Art Agnos broke his collarbone in an accident off Maui. A spokesman said that Agnos leaped into the ocean Friday shortly after he and his family had arrived at the Royal Lahaina Hotel. While neck deep in water, Agnos was hit by a huge wave and slammed to the beach. He was treated at the West Maui Health Care Center. No cast is required, but Agnos will wear a brace for two or three weeks. He will return to San Francisco Thursday.
