Guardi Sale Sets Record: Meanwhile, records continue to be broken in the art world. A painting by 18th-Century Venetian painter Francesco Guardi was sold for $14 million at an auction in Monaco Friday night, bringing in what Sotheby’s auctioneer Simon de Pury said was a world record for a Guardi painting and the second highest price paid for an Old Master. De Pury did not disclose the identity of the buyer.
