From Times Staff and wire service reports

The Los Angeles city Board of Telecommunications Commissioners will hold a public hearing tonight to receive comments on the service and performance of Century Southwest Cable Television.

Southwest, the second largest cable company in Los Angeles, is facing the possibility of having its franchise revoked due to numerous complaints from subscribers.

Complaints from the system’s 106,000 subscribers include system-wide blackouts, blurry pictures, high subscription rates, abusive customer representatives and phone lines that always seem to be busy.

The public hearing is the first step in the license revocation process. The City Council will have the final say on whether the firm continues to hold the franchise.
