A dress code is favored by a majority of San Diego city school board members.

They reacted favorably to Trustee Kay Davis’s suggestion Tuesday that the district encourage parents and teachers to consider the pros and cons of dress codes, which schools across the country are beginning to try both for reasons of economics and and peer pressure.

Schools Supt. Tom Payzant said that, if the board decides students should wear uniforms, the district would have to provide them to parents that cannot afford them.
