Pasadena : Armenia Quake Service
A candlelight vigil will be held at 7:30 p.m. tonight outside Pasadena’s City Hall at 100 N. Garfield Ave. to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the earthquake in Soviet Armenia that caused an estimated 25,000 deaths.
Archbishop Datev Sarkissian of the Western Prelacy of the Armenian Apostolic Church, will be joined by other religious leaders to offer prayers for victims of the Armenian earthquake and the Oct. 17 earthquake in Northern California.
Aid for those affected by the Armenian earthquake is still being sought by the Armenian Relief Society in Pasadena. The United Armenian Fund a week ago sent a plane load of supplies directly to Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, said Bill Paparian, a member of the Pasadena Board of Directors. Another load is expected to be sent soon.
Meanwhile, the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Assn. recently contributed $18,000 that was used to buy powdered milk for Armenian earthquake victims.
