2 Japanese Firms to Get Stake in Freight Carrier: Airborne Freight Corp. said two Japanese firms, Mitsui & Co. and Tonami Transportation, agreed to pay $40 million for a 10% stake in the Seattle-based air freight carrier. As part of the agreement, Mitsui will commit up to $100 million for new aircraft for Airborne, and will get a seat on Airborne’s board. Airborne is 15% owned by TNT Ltd., an Australian air freight line.
