P. M. BRIEFING : NTT Opens Project to Foreigners
Bowing to U.S. pressure, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp. said today it will seek foreign participation in the construction of its new head office in Tokyo from the designing stage.
Japan’s domestic telecommunications giant said it will seek design services from both domestic and foreign architecture and engineering firms.
The decision was posted in the government’s official gazette today, the company said.
The project calls for construction of a high-rise building housing its new head office in Shinjuku, Tokyo’s new business center.
NTT originally planned to seek foreign participation in the construction, excluding design services. The United States complained about it and demanded that foreign firms be given an opportunity to provide design services.
