THE SIDELINES : Ski Race Off to a Flaky Start
From Times Wire Services
SALT LAKE CITY —
Volunteers wielding shovels and tarps created a five-kilometer course in time for the Folksam World Cup cross-country ski race opening Saturday.
Lack of snow on the Mountain Dell Golf Course east of Salt Lake City had threatened to cancel the race that marks the opening of the World Cup season.
Crews worked Wednesday and Thursday to take man-made snow and move it by hand to the redesigned course.
