Prepare Plants for Winter by ‘Hardening’

Share

Help prepare your plants for the coled winter weather by “hardening” them. This means holding back on nitrogen feeding in the late fall to discourage soft, tender growth, but continue feeding with iron every two months.

Decreasing the amount of water will harden plants too. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t water water at all though--the soil should stay moist. Moist soil absorbs heat and releases this heat to the environment around the plant.
