Two 16-year-old Mission Viejo Nadadores swimmers, Eric Diehl and Ryan Cox, qualified for the U.S. Senior Nationals in the 1,650-yard freestyle event Sunday at Belmont Plaza Pool in Long Beach.

Diehl won the race in 15 minutes 37.87 seconds and Cox followed in 15:40.92. The qualifying standard for the Senior Nationals, to be held in Nashville in March, is 15:45.39. Earlier in the invitational, which started Thursday, Diehl had qualified for the Senior Nationals in the 1,000-, 500- and 200-yard freestyle events.

Diehl and Cox were the only swimmers to qualify for the senior event, which will serve as the trials for the Goodwill Games in Seattle in 1990. Earlier in the competition Amy Ward of the Southern California Aquatics Club in Tustin qualified in the 1,000-, 500- and 200-yard free events.
