ANAHEIM : Public Utilities Manager Resigns
The general manager of Anaheim’s Public Utilities Department, the city’s highest-paid employee, is resigning after 25 years of heading the department.
Gordon W. Hoyt, 64, took over the city’s consumer-owned electric and water systems in 1964. This year, the job earned him $136,000.
Hoyt led the city’s successful challenges to electric rate increases imposed by Southern California Edison, resulting in $49 million in refunds to Anaheim customers since 1972. Anaheim’s electric utility rates average 18% less than the rates charged by Edison in neighboring cities, according to the Public Utilities Department.
Hoyt’s resignation is effective Dec. 30. After that, he will serve as a consultant to the city on utilities issues. The terms of his consulting contract have not yet been approved by the City Council.
