LA HABRA : City’s OK Expected on Housing Units

A low-income housing complex is considered likely to be constructed at 607 E. La Habra Blvd. for senior citizens or small families. The City Council will receive a proposal for the development of the complex in February, according to a statement by City Manager Lee Risner.

Funding for the project will come from the La Habra Redevelopment Agency in conjunction with the Neighborhood Housing Services of La Habra.

If developed for senior citizens, the complex may contain as many as 18 units. Because of the need for two bedrooms and additional parking, family units would probably be limited to about 13, Risner said.

Members of the council have indicated support for building family housing, noting that four new complexes have been constructed for seniors. Council member William D. Mahoney said he leaned “more toward the development of small-family units.”

Mayor Pro Tem John C. Holmberg requested that consideration be given to the future conversion of the new units to privately owned condominiums. He urged that the construction not only meet requirements for multiple-unit dwellings but also those for condominiums, including double walls between units.
