Shrink Rap: Walt Disney’s summer film “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids” is the winner of the 1989 Dunce Cap Award by SPELL, the 2,000-member Society for the Preservation of English Language and Literature. The society claims the film title should have been “Honey, I Shrank the Kids.” “We’re not grammar police,” said SPELL vice president William S. Penn Jr. “We’re just people who think the English language should be saved from the careless and ignorant.” A Disney official who would not give his name defended the use of “shrunk,” saying that it came straight from the film’s dialogue. “It was done deliberately. It was not an error,” he said. The film grossed more than $129 million.
