From Times wire services

President Bush invited Rep. G. V. Montgomery to spend Christmas with the First Family because he wanted to make sure the unmarried Democrat didn’t eat his holiday dinner alone.

“That’s the kind of person he is,” said Montgomery, 69, who has known Bush since the two came to Washington 23 years ago as freshmen congressmen. “He was concerned that I didn’t have a place to eat.”

Montgomery said he had always spent Christmas with his mother, who died two years ago. He said he would join the Bushes at Camp David, Md.
