SOUTHLAND : Jurors in McMartin Case Give Judge 24 More Sealed Verdicts
On their 25th day of deliberations, jurors in the McMartin Pre-School molestation trial today returned 24 more sealed verdicts, leaving 39 to go.
Two other sealed verdicts were returned previously by the eight-man, four-woman Superior Court jury.
Superior Court Judge William Pounders will not announce the partial verdicts before the jury’s scheduled two-week Christmas vacation, which begins Saturday.
Former preschool teachers Raymond Buckey, 31, and his mother, Peggy McMartin Buckey, 62, are charged with one count of conspiracy and 64 counts of child molestation.
The 2 1/2-year trial is the longest and, at $15 million, the costliest criminal trial in U.S. history.
