Culver City : Funding Guidelines Set

Share

The Culver City Council and Redevelopment Agency on Monday approved guidelines for choosing nonprofit organizations to receive city funds for group homes for the physically handicapped, the mentally impaired, foster children and other people who need special care.

The guidelines, part of a state-required, five-year plan to use some Redevelopment Agency funds for low- and moderate-income housing, include such criteria as licensing, benefit to Culver City residents and the track record of the organization. The city’s goal is to help develop at least five group homes in the next five years.

The city staff defines a group home as a structure that looks like a single-family home and can house up to six occupants and a resident caretaker.

The Redevelopment Agency has budgeted $500,000, which might go toward helping to buy or rent property and offering loans or grants for renovating buildings, according to Community Development Director Jody Hall-Esser.
