Ashton-Tate Sells Stake in Database Firm: Ashton-Tate, the faltering Torrance software publisher best known for its dBase programs, said the divestiture of its less than 5% stake in the innovative and fast-growing Sybase database firm would reduce confusion among customers. An Ashton-Tate subsidiary competes directly with Sybase. Ashton-Tate sold its stake to Lotus Development Corp. for an undisclosed sum.
