Blue Hair Gets Him a Pink Sheet

A Los Banos Community Hospital X-ray technician says that over the years he has dyed his hair white, gold and a combination of red, yellow and green.

But never did it cause him as much trouble as when he showed up for work recently with a streak of blue hair from his forehead to the tip of a foot-long ponytail.

Ray Fuller, 38, was told last week that blue was not acceptable and he was given five days to dye it back to black, the color it had been for some time, said hospital administrator Darryl Henley.

Fuller says he tried, but, “like I told the administrators, if you have hair that is one color and you totally redo it in another color, there’s going to be a certain amount of blending.”

What resulted was a muddy brown color with a blue tint.

Henley said Fuller’s attempt was not acceptable and fired the 10-year employee.

“I had no recourse but to make the termination go through,” Henley said Wednesday.

“I don’t think it is appropriate for somebody that is handling patients on a daily basis and in contact with the public and visitors to be wearing blue hair,” Henley said.

Fuller says he hasn’t decided what legal action he’ll take, but he plans to consult a lawyer.
