New Heels for Hannah

Two celebrities who rarely make the Rodeo Drive shopping scene showed up last week. On Monday “Steel Magnolias” star Daryl Hannah strolled into Fred Hayman Beverly Hills with special friend Jackson Browne in tow. She had seen Adige shoes in a magazine and simply had to try some on. Doffing her cowboy boots, she slipped into the 4-inch-heeled French pumps and decided they were the shoes for her. She was so smitten that she bought four pair, in champagne-colored satin ($250), black glitter ($265), metallic khaki ($250) and black suede ($175).

Ivana Bags New Bags

Two days later Ivana Trump, whose usual stomping ground is the Plaza Hotel in New York, where she is president, dropped in with a bodyguard and walked out with two of Fred Hayman’s signature evening bags, one in crystal pleated red silk with a jeweled salamander clasp ($545) and the other a black silk satin pleated bag with a rhinestone studded frog clasp ($450). Madame President was next seen at Giorgio Beverly Hills, doing more shopping. Her bodyguard was holding quite a few packages by then, and the gossip that trailed behind her went like this: “Her look was nice, but in that poufed and sprayed New York way. Not the natural, Beverly Hills way.” Are we getting a little chauvinistic about our style, B.H.?

Hubby Just Browses

While she was making big buys on Rodeo Drive, her husband, Donald Trump, was shopping at Bullocks Wilshire. Or browsing, at least. The dapper Don did stop in the fragrance department, but evidently he departed with all his dollars and no scents. Trump was well turned out in a dark suit, white shirt and red tie. According to Norma Foerderer, assistant to the president of the Trump Organization, he favors navy blue suits. Trump was in town to work on the “Trump Card” game show, which Lorimar is producing, Foerderer added.

A Bit of Neck Wear

Michael Graves, megastar of the constructural arts, was also shopping at Bullocks Wilshire last week, when he wasn’t showing off his latest endeavor--three crystal vases from his Archaic Vessel Collection for Steuben. While he was at the store he managed to slip in some Christmas shopping. Between meeting The Urban Innovations Group and his adoring fans, he was spotted at the men’s furnishings counter buying two ties, one by Joseph Abboud and the other from Giorgio Armani.

Madonna’s New ‘Do

Madonna, who changes her hair as often as some people change their minds, was seen the other night at the China Club, sporting her very closely cropped, short, dark brown ‘do with bangs. “Madonna is a big fan of silent film actress Louise Brooks and was more than likely inspired by her look on the silver screen,” says Liz Rosenberg, the Material Girl’s press agent. With Madonna was Warren Beatty, soon to be starring as Dick Tracy in the new film of the same name; Madonna is writing songs for the sound track album, Listen hears. Between time, she’s gearing up for a world tour next spring and has consulted with Jean Paul Gaultier, the Paris designer, about her stage wardrobe.

Another Power Pact

While American and Soviet politicians were discussing trade concessions late last week, American sportswear manufacturer Gitano sealed the deal on a Russian franchise arrangement. A Gitano store will open within two weeks in Soviet Georgia, according to Gitano spokesman Alan Levy, who says negotiations have been going on for more than three years. The turning point came in October at a trade show sponsored by the United States and the Soviet Union, the first of its kind in 15 years. “Mikhail Gorbachev opened the show, then visited about 10 booths. Having him come to our exhibit didn’t hurt,” says Levy.

A New Fit for Douglas

In Hollywood, even when there’s a fashion emergency, the show must go on. That was the motto when Michael Douglas shed some pounds before filming “The War of the Roses” and discovered that suddenly his wardrobe needed alterations. Douglas had dashed off to a spa for R&R; after filming “Black Rain.” While there, he hit the weights and emerged with a newly toned physique. Soon the director wasn’t the only one on the set yelling “Cut!” Douglas’ suits had to be completely recut and resewn from scratch. Costume designer Gloria Gresham had chosen one-of-a-kind fabrics for the suits, which were made in Italy expressly for Douglas by Nino Cerruti 1881 Paris.

Under the Bouffant

Notice how red Kate Pierson’s hair was Monday night on “The Arsenio Hall Show”? And, no, the B-52’s singer wasn’t wearing a wig. That bouffant was all hers. Well, almost. Joseph Genna at the Allen Edwards salon in Beverly Hills tells us he cut Pierson’s locks so she could get that exaggerated ‘60’s style with her own hair--and a rat added underneath. As for the color, that was accomplished with iridescent conditioning henna.
