Orange County government and the Tustin Unified School District are conducting separate charity drives during the holiday season.

The annual Operation Santa Claus raised $405,000 last year in cash and toys for 11,757 needy people through the Orange County Fire Department and county Social Services Agency.

Contributors are being urged to drop off a new, unwrapped toy at any of the 45 Orange County fire stations through Christmas Eve for distribution to the poor.

On Dec. 17, the Los Angeles Rams will hold an Operation Santa Claus toy drive before the game against the New York Jets. Fans are being asked to bring a new toy for donation.

In Tustin, the school district is hoping for donations of food or money for its own annual drive. Canned goods, non-perishable food items, soap, toiletries, paper goods and unwrapped toys can be dropped off at local schools in the district.

Cash donations are being accepted at Health Services at the District Administration Center, 300 S. C St. in Tustin.
