Share

Three companies--Hertz, Iberia and Miami-based VE Tours--are again offering a “Spain on Wheels” program that allows a couple flying to Spain to get a Hertz car for seven days for $1.

Air bookings must be made through VE Tours, which also can make car reservations. At least three hotel nights in Spain or Portugal are required for the rental car. Reservations must be made at least 14 days before departure from the United States.

The $1 car rental includes unlimited mileage, road and city maps and free drop-off of the vehicle at any Hertz station in Spain. Hertz locations include Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Granada, Seville, Malaga, Bilbao and Salamanca. There is an additional charge to drop off the car in Portugal.

Customers are responsible for fuel and the 12% value-added tax (4% in the Canary Islands, which are part of Spain). Optional coverage, such as for the loss-damage waiver (including collision, theft and vandalism), also is extra.

This offer is available until May 31, 1990. Contact travel agents or VE Tours toll-free at (800) 222-8383.

Iberia Air Lines and Kemwel Car Rental offer a car for a week in Spain at no charge if two people traveling together book round-trip U.S.-Spain flights on Iberia through Kemwel.

The rental car includes unlimited mileage, the VAT and an insurance/collision-damage waiver. Gasoline is extra. The car may be dropped off anywhere at no extra charge. Reservations have to be made at least seven days before departure from the United States.

The program lasts until March 31, 1990. Contact travel agents or Kemwel at (800) 678-0678.
