Volunteers Sought to Help Plant Trees Honoring King
Organizers of the Martin Luther King Boulevard memorial project are seeking the public’s help in planting about 400 Canary Island pine trees along the street on Jan. 13 as a memorial to the slain civil rights leader, whose birthday is Jan. 15.
The organizing committee is looking for 1,000 volunteers, who will be trained to be planting supervisors and block hosts for each block of the seven-mile stretch of road in Los Angeles. A training session for volunteer planting supervisors will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 6. Block hosts are scheduled to meet from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 3. Both groups will meet at Audubon Junior High School.
Organizers are hoping that thousands of volunteers--without or without training--will come to the planting. For more information call 731-8523
