STATE : 2-Car Crash on Hollywood Fwy. Triggers 9-Car Pileup Injuring 9
A minor accident triggered a nine-car pileup on the Hollywood Freeway late Monday, injuring nine people, two critically, officials said today.
The incident at 9:21 p.m. was sparked by a collision between two cars that pulled to the center divider on the southbound lanes of the freeway at Highland Avenue, according to a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol.
A third vehicle then hit the two stopped cars and careened across traffic lanes, triggering other crashes, CHP Officer Dwight McDonald said. Five of the injured were in one car, McDonald said. A man and elderly woman reportedly suffered major injuries and a girl in the vehicle suffered broken bones, officers reported.
