A former minister in the pro-Soviet Afghan government defected to the resistance and said he had worked secretly in Kabul for the guerrillas for almost 10 years. Pacha Gul Wafatar, recently the minister of civil aviation, was interviewed in Peshawar, Pakistan, after he fled Kabul. He said he had been advised by one of the guerrilla factions to depart the capital because of the possibility of a coup attempt.
