Ecology Survey: At the Crossroads

We would like to thank you for your special report. This is truly a time we must choose.

We must begin to understand that it is just that, our choices, that have brought us to this precipice. It is not the earth we have chosen to destroy but ourselves. The earth has the ability to heal itself as we do, and will survive any damage we can do. What we are creating is an environment that is simply unfit for humans to survive in.

Why we have chosen this selfish, self-destructive path is a mystery. Now we may choose anew--to become aware that it is our cars that are killing us; that it is our waste that is burying us; that the poison we pour down our sinks is a poison we pour down our own throats. The interrelationship is undeniable.

We can no longer separate our actions from their effects. We can no longer wait for a government to solve our problems. No longer is it they who pollute. We pollute.

Cars will not change until we demand it. Plastics and the convenience provided by our garbage will not go away until we say stop. What will we choose? Let’s start small and choose recycling, and shopping with our own shopping bags, and organic gardening practices, and riding a bicycle instead of driving, and planting a tree instead of pouring concrete.
