Political Funds

If California voters are really prepared to add a “dollar or two” to their income taxes to finance political campaigns and to eliminate all private contributions, they will be on the right track (Times Poll, Part A, Dec. 8).

In addition, they might encourage more honesty in government 1) if they limited the number of terms a person might serve in office, 2) if they limited campaigns to six weeks or two months, 3) if they banned 30-second television slur ads, and 4) if they required all television stations to give each serious candidate one hour to discuss issues.

These reforms might restore confidence in government and bring voters back to the voting booth.
