On Duffy’s Decision

I know as well as you do that neither The Times nor any other news organization is responsible for driving San Diego County Sheriff John Duffy from office. More than 20 years of his own greed and misdeeds are doing that. You have just done your job by telling us about it.

I think, however, that it’s awfully nice of Duffy at this late date to give you people credit for having performed such a noble public service.
