CYPRESS : Police Dog Sniffs Out 2 Robbery Suspects

Share

A police dog led officers Tuesday to two juveniles suspected of a Christmas Day robbery as they hid in bushes outside a condominium complex, police said.

The teen-agers--a 15-year-old from Fullerton and a 16-year-old from Anaheim--are accused of stealing a late-model pickup truck from a young man at knifepoint about 9 p.m. Monday near Charles W. Tewinkle Memorial Park in Costa Mesa.

The names of the two were not released because they are juveniles.

Cypress Police Officer Richard Ayers spotted the truck four hours after it was reported stolen. It was being driven by two youths near Orange Avenue and Valley View Street, police dispatcher Denise Davis said.

The truck made a sharp turn into the condominium complex near the intersection and the occupants ran away, she said. Officers searched the area for more than two hours to no avail. Then they called in Sam, a police dog, who found the teen-agers hiding in bushes, Davis said.

One of the youths suffered bites on his legs. Both were held at Orange County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of robbery, possession of stolen property and auto theft.
