Police said Tuesday that they were moving closer to identifying a bicyclist who was seriously injured when he ran into a limousine on Christmas Day.

The condition of the Latino man who struck the limousine on La Habra Boulevard improved, and he was semiconscious, said Sgt. Tom Machado.

Police hoped to soon be able to question the injured man. Two people who believe that he might be an acquaintance planned to visit the man at UCI Medical Center in Orange.

The man swerved his 10-speed Huffy bicycle across several lanes of traffic and crashed into the side of the limousine about 12:25 p.m. Monday near Marian Street, suffering head injuries, officers said.

The limousine was driven by Edward Dexter, 62, of Whittier, who owns a limousine company. At the time of the accident, he was taking his mother-in-law to the hospital for treatment of an ailment, police said.

Machado said Dexter would not be cited. Officers detected the smell of liquor on the bicyclist’s breath, but Machado said no blood-alcohol level tests were performed.
