Silverman Resigns: Joy Silverman, executive director of Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions for the past seven years, has announced her resignation, effective in March. Silverman, who founded Los Angeles’ Coalition for Freedom of Expression after this summer’s National Endowment for the Arts funding controversies, said she is resigning to “commit my time to fighting against censorship on a national level.” Among her activities, Silverman will continue to work with a national, New York-based organization of artists against censorship. “It’s really hard to leave because I really believe in this organization,” said Silverman of LACE, which has grown under her leadership from an annual operating budget of $90,000 to $600,000. “But I feel it is really important to focus my attention on these other things at hand.”
