Howard R. Bowen; Former Claremont University Center Chancellor

Howard R. Bowen, 81, emeritus professor of economics and education at the Claremont Graduate School and former chancellor of the Claremont University Center, the coordinating institution of the six independent liberal arts Claremont Colleges. Bowen was president of Grinnell College in Iowa where a science building was named for him and at the University of Iowa before coming to Claremont in 1970. He was also chief economist for the Joint Congressional Committee on Internal Revenue Taxation in 1944 and the author of 12 books. He retired from the classroom in 1984. In Claremont on Friday.
