SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Goalkeeper Tony Olivares made several acrobatic saves that made the difference as San Fernando High beat Camarillo, 1-0, in the championship match of the Hart soccer tournament Friday at Hart High.

“He’s been playing his best,” Tiger Coach Arturo Vasquez said. “He’s been making some good stops.”

Enrique Moreno scored from eight yards on an assist from Fabian Galvan at the 23-minute mark of the second half for the Tigers (8-0-2).

Twelve minutes before halftime, Scorpion right wing Sean Lewis launched a rocket from the right corner, which Olivares stopped by the goal post.

At the 34-minute mark, Lewis apparently scored off Chris Sampson’s corner kick, but the goal was disallowed because Lewis touched the ball with his hand.

Camarillo (7-1) threatened again when midfielder Todd Malesich took a shot from 15 yards, but Olivares dived toward the left goal post to make the save.

A hand-ball penalty against the Tigers with three minutes left gave Camarillo a free kick from 25 yards. Malesich approached from the right and faked the kick. Marcus Hanson then launched a shot that struck the crossbar and ricocheted down on the goal line before Olivares smothered it.

“I think our luck ran out,” Camarillo Coach John Alfino said. “We won two games near the end (Thursday) and I figured it would come back to haunt us.”

Miguel Soler scored on a penalty kick in a shoot-out to give Hart (5-1-1) a 2-1 overtime victory in the third-place game; Dave Santillo scored to give Canyon (4-3) a 1-0 overtime victory over Harvard in the fifth-place game; and Keith Allen scored the decisive goal for Alemany (6-1-1) in a 3-2 victory over Quartz Hill in the consolation championship.
