San Juan’s Parking Fees for Amtrak Riders
- Share via
The San Juan Capistrano City Council has just voted for smog and pollution and against mass transit.
By imposing parking fees at the Amtrak station, the council has made one of the most expensive forms of transportation (Amtrak) even more so. Only the well-to-do can afford to commute on Amtrak as it is; this new parking fee, coupled with similar fees on the other end of the line, make commuting on mass transit out of reach for all but the very rich.
The council has increased pollution by putting commuters back onto highways, or in the case where a person is driving to the station, doubling the number of auto trips to and from the station.
What California needs is less smog and more mass transit. Where does the San Juan Capistrano City Council really stand?
