Adieu to Trends of the ‘80s?

Share

As we usher in 1990, let us not forget some of the good, bad and ugly social practices that proliferated in the ‘80s. Will we be saying goodby to the following trends? Only time will tell.

* Unusual party locations, such as airplane hangars, bowling alleys, boats, shopping malls.

* Healthful catered meals (broiled chicken and fish, steamed vegetables), followed by rich, fattening desserts.

* Taking children along to nighttime parties.

* Faxing invitations.

* RSVPing to party invitations by fax or not RSVPing at all.

* Nightclubs with doormen who decide who gets in and who stays out.

* Illegal floating nightclubs.

* Celebrities truly dedicated to charitable causes.

* Supposedly hush-hush celeb weddings that become media circuses.

* The twenty- and thirtysomething crowd becoming involved in fund-raising.

* The emergence of charitable groups devoted to AIDS assistance and the environment.

* The must-have accessories for the society circuit: Limo, big jewels, bodyguards, beeper (for quick exits), personal publicist.

* The celebrity who refuses to talk to the press or pose for pictures at his or her own movie premiere.

* The proliferation of award shows, and the post-award show parties where no one shows up.

* Super-expensive high school proms.

* Drinking less at parties.
