GTE Trims Access Charge: The parent of Thousand Oaks-based GTE California said long-distance carriers will be charged $100.6 million a year less for obtaining local connections for their calls between states. The company said the reduction stemmed from savings from the company’s reorganization and staff cuts last year aimed at making it more competitive. GTE subsidiaries provide local telephone service to 14 million customers in 31 states and two foreign companies.
