General Motors Corp. officials said today that sluggish auto sales have triggered the indefinite layoff of 445 workers in the Miami Valley.

The layoffs will affect 325 workers at the Delco Products Division in Kettering, which manufactures struts for cars and pickups, and 120 workers at the Delco Moraine Division in Dayton, which makes brake systems, said Thomas Tatham, spokesman for GM’s Dayton operations.

In addition, about 3,480 GM workers in the Miami Valley are on temporary layoff in January. Although most of the layoffs last one to two weeks, 400 workers at the Delco Moraine plant will be off work for 30 to 90 days, said Dave Darnell, director of personnel and public relations at Delco.
