Dean Stockwell, star of the TV series “Quantum Leap” and an Academy Award nominee for his work in the 1988 film “Married to the Mob,” will be here Sunday signing autographs and answering questions at the Creation Convention, a two-day event for science fiction and fantasy buffs.

Stockwell’s appearance illustrates the degree to which Creation Conventions has broadened its scope in recent years. In the beginning, the Mineola, N.Y.-based company focused exclusively on the old “Star Trek” TV series; now, 18 years later, the conventions cater to fans of comic books, horror movies and a host of television cult favorites from ‘60s sitcoms to a new generation of science fiction and fantasy programs--including, of course, “Star Trek: The Next Generation.”

This weekend’s convention will take place at the Inn at the Park. The agenda includes screenings of uncut original “Star Trek” episodes, “Star Trek” bloopers and previews of upcoming movies, along with a “Beauty and the Beast” slide show, trivia contests and celebrity appearances.

Besides Stockwell, the guests scheduled for autograph and question-and-answer sessions include Mark Lenard, who played Spock’s father Sarek on “Star Trek”; Richard Chaves, from the series “War of the Worlds”; comic book artists Mike Zeck and Mark Verheiden, and Dawn Wells from “Gilligan’s Island,” who reportedly will be coming to the convention straight from memorial services for the show’s Skipper, Alan Hale, who died Tuesday.

About 2,000 people are expected to attend the convention, where they will be able to browse through the offerings of 25 to 50 dealers in comic books, posters, toys, dolls, books and T-shirts.

The Creation Convention takes place Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Inn at the Park, 1855 S. Harbor Blvd., Anaheim. Admission: $10 to $16. Information: (714) 750-1811.
