Film Board Invites Nominations: This year, the National Film Preservation Board is inviting the general public to nominate movies for the National Film Registry. The registry, which selects up to 25 films a year, was established by Congress in 1988 to recognize motion pictures as an American art form and emphasize the importance of the preservation and protection of film. Films that will be considered are theatrical releases at least 10 years old that are “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant.” Last year’s titles included “Casablanca,” “Citizen Kane” and “Gone With the Wind.” Nominations must be submitted in writing by April 21 to: National Film Registry, Library of Congress, Washington, D.C. 20540.
