Quick Action on Thrift Cases Urged

WASHINGTON — The chairman of a House Banking subcommittee has said the Justice Department is not acting quickly enough to prosecute fraud and corruption cases in the thrift industry.
“When are the crooks going to jail?” Rep. Frank Annunzio (D-Ill.) said in a letter to Atty. Gen. Dick Thornburgh.
Annunzio pointed out that the recent savings-and-loan bailout bill increased penalties for fraud and corruption.
