U.S. Tries to Block ‘Fat-Magnet’ Claims: The FTC is trying to permanently block a Nevada company and five other defendants from advertising claims that a so-called Fat-Magnet diet pill will help users lose weight without dieting or exercise. The agency claims that Allied International Corp. of Las Vegas has earned millions of dollars selling the $20 bottles of wheat-colored pills through the mail to nearly a million consumers nationwide. The FTC secured a temporary restraining order against Allied on Tuesday in U.S. District Court. Linder Ad-Vantage Inc. of Oxnard and cardiologist William E. Shell of Beverly Hills were also named in the complaint.
