UAL Pilots Preparing New Buyout Bid: Officials of United Airlines’ pilots union say they’ll try to come up with a new buyout proposal for parent UAL Corp. by mid-week to prevent a costly recapitalization by the board. The union’s governing council will meet Jan. 24 “to determine if we can develop a viable proposal for employee ownership to submit to the board the next day,” three top officials of the union said in a letter to members.
