CYPRESS : Mayor Calls Growth City’s Major Issue

Share

As the city moves into the new decade, Mayor Cecilia L. Age sees growth as the major issue.

Cypress is home to 45,384 people, but Age said the population could swell to more than 50,000 within three years with the completion of new housing projects.

Age said the early 1990s will bring the completion of several long-awaited redevelopment projects, including an upgrading of Lincoln Avenue and a major business park. She said that by the end of this decade, most usable land in Cypress will developed.

“I would also like to see the city take a plan that will pass to the citizens the Cypress Downs race track,” she said, referring to the controversial project that has been under consideration by the city for more than 10 years. The track, which would be built at Lexington Street and Cerritos Avenue, would also include a golf course.

Age also said the city may implement a recycling program under which residents separate their trash before pickups.
