THE SIDELINES : Judge Fines Winfield in Divorce
A judge has fined New York Yankees outfielder Dave Winfield $10,000 for failing to disclose a California bank account during the pretrial phase of divorce proceedings from his common-law wife.
A jury last summer found that Winfield had a common-law marriage to flight attendant Sandra Renfro from 1982 to 1985, and a judge ordered him to pay temporary alimony and child support for the couple’s daughter.
State District Judge Allen Daggett Tuesday postponed the Winfield-Renfro divorce hearing until the issue of the California bank account is settled. Winfield holds the joint account with his current wife, Tonya.
Daggett ordered Winfield to submit all documentation pertaining to the account to Renfro’s attorney, Earle Lilly. The judge also sanctioned Winfield to pay Renfro $10,000.
