Indicted San Diego financier Richard T. Silberman has asked that he not be reappointed to his $40,816-a-year position on the California Medical Assistance Commission, a spokesman for Senate President Pro Tem David A. Roberti said Wednesday.
In a letter dated Dec. 22 and addressed to Roberti (D-Los Angeles), chairman of the Senate Rules Committee, Silberman never mentioned his legal woes but said, “I will not have the time to serve another full term and ask that you appoint someone to take my place.” The letter was released Wednesday.
Silberman, former state budget director, faces federal charges of money laundering. His appointment to the commission, which negotiates contracts for Medi-Cal recipients, officially expired Jan. 1, but he will continue to serve until a replacement is named. Silberman was in Sacramento Wednesday for a commission meeting.
